Our sweet baby boy has arrived. I’m currently a week and three days postpartum.

If I’m being completely honest, I was super nervous to have another c-section. But, wanted to avoid having to go through another emergency c-section at all costs. This was the reason why I opted for a planned c-section and completed avoided the idea of trying natural.

Planned C-section:

We got to the hospital around 6am. Registration was pretty quick. We got put into a room where they were getting me ready for an IV and a blood test. This was probably the worst part of my experience. Usually there are ALWAYS issues when it comes to finding my vein for blood work. It took maybe 4 nurses and 6-7 pokes for them to actually find my vein. The first nurse with the first 2-3 pokes caused major swelling and bruising on my hands and fingers. This delayed the procedure, as they needed to wait for results on the blood test before they could actually start the c-section.

Around 8:30am they had me walk to the operating room where they cleaned me off, gave me the spinal. They waited until I was frozen from my stomach to my toes. Was only able to feel some touching and pressure (already way better than the emergency c-section I had). The surgery itself was really short, and the baby was born at 9:09am.

After the surgery they let me hold the baby in my arms and wheeled me away to recovery in a stretcher. We were able to go home in less than 48hrs.

Emergency C-Section:

We were at the hospital at 12pm, after they checked me in the contractions had stopped , which resulted in me needing to be induced. Originally I didn’t want an epidural at all, but because the meds made the contractions come faster and harder, it made me cave in quicker for an epidural. I was still able to feel a lot of pain, even with the epidural in. I got up to 8cm dilated when the nurse came back saying the babies heart rate dropped twice and they don’t know what would happen if it dropped a third time. At that point I was given a choice to keep going and try natural or to have an emergency c-section. Which, I said whichever would be safer for both the baby and I.

Everything was so rushed, they tried to freeze me, but I was able to feel everything, including them cutting through the layers. I remember squirming and tensing up from pain, they wanted to put me under but I said no. I grabbed the wrist straps so tight that the heart monitor kept falling off. By time the baby came out, I apparently said “she’s beautiful” (I don’t remember that happening) and I passed out. None of the nurses/doctors knew why. Eventually when I did wake up, they put the baby between my legs and wheeled me into recovery on a stretcher. The baby was born at 7:11pm.

If I had to do this all over again, I’d probably recommend a planned c-section. Not saying going natural all ends up the same way, because it doesn’t. But, I wouldn’t want to go through all that trauma again. Got a beautiful healthy baby girl from the emergency c-section and I absolutely love and adore her.
