A Simple Favor ~ Movie Review

MOVIE REVIEW ~ A SIMPLE FAVOR

Release Date: September 14th 2018
Duration: 1hr and 57mins
Genre: Crime/Thriller/Mystery
Rated: R

It took me almost three years to watch this film, and when I finally decided to do it, I am glad I did. This movie is also based on a book that was only published a year prior (I am yet to read the book, I am hoping to add it to my Autumn reading list).

Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) a lonely single mother that runs a vlog about food, meets Emily (Blake Lively) one day after picking up her kid from school. The two kids had become friends and asked their moms if they can have a play date. That is when Stephanie tries to become best friends with Emily, they exchange secrets and conversations over a Gin Martini.

I honestly think that Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively did amazing on their rolls. The duo is what gave the movie the flow it got.

One day Emily calls Stephanie and asks her “friend” to for a little favor. That was to go over and watch her son. As time passes, Stephanie realizes that Emily may possibly be missing and eventually has been declared dead. But for a girl that is dead, things don’t quite add up. Why is her presence still so strong? How did she die if she really did die? Stephanie tries to put all the puzzle pieces together all while trying to keep herself sane, and getting herself caught up in her “dead friends” affairs.

I’m honestly surprised at how much bad reviews this film got, but, I guess to each their own? I truly did love every bit of this movie, and there was a lot that has happened that I would have honestly never would’ve guessed (I wont say what caught me off my guard, in case anyone is still yet to watch it).

Of course Emily (Blake Lively) would have a huge walk in closet with all these nice outfits and shoes… reminds me of Gossip Girl 😍.

I’m personally very behind on watching movies, so not sure how to compare it to other possible similar movies. It does really give me Gossip Girl featuring Pretty Little Liars vibes.

Bridge to Terabithia ~ Movie Review

MOVIE REVIEW ~ BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA

Release Date: February 15th 2007.
Duration: 1hr 36mins.
Genre: Fantasy Drama.
Rated: PG.

Bridge to Terabithia is a movie I have watched at the very least ten times. I unfortunately never had the chance to read the book, so I am unable to compare how similar or different they are from one another (it is on my to read list), the last time I seen this film was a few months ago when I was looking for a film that gave me some sort of comfort, and I remember exactly why this film gives me that sense of comfort and happiness. I love the idea of having a place to escape to from reality, between being bullied and having that horrible feeling that you don’t belong due to not having many friends, a great escape is exactly what is needed when reality gets crappy. Which that is exactly what this film had, that realism of young children in school and what they go through emotionally and physically, and how they made themselves feel happier and more themselves.

The connection between Jess Aarons (Josh Hutcherson) and Leslie Burke (Anna Sophia Robb) I found were the perfect duo for this cute family film. At first Jess thought that Leslie was possibly a little crazy, she was seeing and hearing things that he just was not quite understanding. Eventually he got into the idea of the Fantasy world and they became best of friends, they met up nearly every day after school just to go to Terabithia. The one day Jess was unable to meet up with Leslie was the day he went on a trip with his teacher Ms. Edmunds (Zooey Deschanel). When Jess got home, he found out about a tragic incident that had happened to his best friend Leslie (This is as far as I will go with the depth of the movie as I don’t want to spoil the movie, in case anyone has interests in watching it).

I can say there is a particular part in this movie that I always end up crying my eyes out, and it never fails to get to me. I know just when it is about to happen, and the water works just automatically take control over me.

Although I do highly recommend this movie for an evening at home with the family, I do not recommend to little kids. Between the giants and some parts of the movie being a little on the dark side it can either scare them or they might not understand everything that is going on in the film. I would probably suggest 10-11+ for the age group.

Leslie Burke is my favourite character, and my favourite quote from her is “Just close your eyes, but keep your mind wide open”.

Although the story itself was amazing, I kind of wish that things were a bit different for the characters, maybe it would’ve left an open opportunity for a second film. Would’ve loved to see what Leslie and Jess would’ve been like a bit older.

Shows That Netflix Cancelled Too Early

Hello Everyone and Happy Thursday.

Every Thursday the topic will be about TV it could be about TV shows that are still airing, shows that have been cancelled or completed. Movies that are either recent or from way back when.

Today specifically I want to discuss shows that were short lived on Netflix and that I felt were cancelled far too early.

  1. SCREAM TV SERIES:
Horror films/shows and I’m there, I’m kind of particular of what movies and shows I’d watch in the horror genre, some are just too stupid for me to even consider. But SCREAM… I was beyond excited when I heard a show was coming out. I was pretty much hooked since the first episode, was excited that a second season came out.. watched that. And then there were talks for the LONGEST time that there was going to be a third season to come out… and… it just didn’t happen. Pretty sure at one point I read that they were going to completely change the cast and just nothing came of it.

2) Scream Queens:

I was actually a little hesitant about watching this one. Parody horror shows/movies can either be really good or just flat out terrible. It took me a long time to even consider giving it a try. But when I did… I’m so glad I did. Yes, there was some stupid moments.. but not enough to keep me away. This show also lasted for only two seasons sadly. The very last episode of season two convinced me that there was going to be a third season.. but again. Netflix decided to cancel it.

3) Teenage Bounty Hunter:

My sister and I watch a lot of Netflix shows together and this happened to be on the list. At first I thought I wasn’t going to like it, got the Fiance to watch it with me… and each episode that went by, just seemed to be getting even better. Insert something completely out of the blue and dramatic to happen at the end of season one… oh.. you know… CANCELLED! Ugh.

4) Daybreak:

Ferris Buller’s Day Off featuring possibly the end of the world. At least that was definitely the vibe I got from this. It got me hooked from the first episode.. I mean.. who doesn’t enjoy a good apocalyptic show? Unfortunately only lasted for one season, had my hopes up for more.

5) Santa Clarita’s Diet:

First off… ZOMBIE SHOW! I love zombie themes! Secondly I would’ve never thought to see Drew Barrymore in something that wasn’t just classified as a chick flick. Honestly one of my favourite actress’. I was hooked on the show since the very beginning! This time Netflix decided to grace us with three seasons before deciding to cancel it. There was so much room for more growth with this show and was so sad to hear it got cancelled.

6) No Tomorrow:

I’m pretty sure I cried when I heard there wasn’t going to be a second season. I was absolutely devastated that this show was no more and literally there was going to be no tomorrow for this show. This show also made me realize the importance of adventures and creating bucket lists. You only do live one life and don’t know what’s going to happen.. so may as well try to enjoy it. I low key had some hope that this show will some how be picked up again but considering it has been four years ago since it got cancelled.. it seems very unlikely to happen.

7) The Society:

This show gave me so many chills… especially at the end of the season. Out of all the shows listed in this post.. this show in particular pulled my emotions in so many different directions. I’m convinced this show was supposed to get a second season.. and then out of the blue it ended up getting cancelled. I almost gave up watching new shows because everything I liked kept getting cancelled.

8) Merry Happy Whatever:

Loved this show. I found it really funny and honestly thought it would’ve been cool to have it come back every Christmas. But apparently this also got cancelled. I would’ve loved to see what they would’ve done for a second season.

Have you watched any of these shows listed in this post? Was there a particular one you felt more hard to believe it ended up getting cancelled? If you never watched any of these shows, what shows did YOU enjoy that ended up getting cancelled?
